School Updates & Reminders

  • No School on Monday as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We encourage families to take time to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of leadership, service, and standing up for what is right.
  • Dress Code Reminder: To help maintain a positive learning environment, please remember that students should not wear midriff-baring tops, camisoles, pullover hoodies, pajama pants, or house shoes to school. Thank you for your continued support!
  • Football Conditioning: Football conditioning will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will run until 4:30 p.m. Please plan transportation accordingly.
  • Welcome Our New Attendance Clerk! Please join us in welcoming Janeese Baugh as our new attendance clerk! Janeese has been a proud member of the Cougar family for the past 5 years, and we’re excited to have her in this new role supporting our students and families.
Thank you for being such an important part of our Cougar community!

New Attendance Email

We’re excited to share a brand-new attendance email address designed to make communication quicker and simpler for families! Parents can now send parent notes, doctor’s notes, and other attendance-related information directly to:

cmsattendance@mauryk12.org

This new system helps us process absences more efficiently and keeps everything in one convenient place. Save the address and use it anytime you need to report or document an absence. We’re making attendance communication easier than ever!

No School Monday MLK Day

There will be no school on Monday as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader of the American civil rights movement who worked to bring about change through peaceful protest, courage, and service to others. His efforts helped end segregation laws and expanded civil rights for millions of people. Dr. King believed that everyone deserves to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect and that individuals, including young people, can make a difference in their communities.

No Unexcused Absences Challenge

Students with no unexcused absences between January 6 and February 28 will be eligible to participate in our Chill Out Fest!

Please remember to submit absence notes via email, ParentSquare notification, or by dropping them off in the office. With the start of the new semester, each student has 5 parent notes available to use (unless the student is under truancy review).

We look forward to celebrating with every student has the opportunity to enjoy this special event!

No Unexcused Tardies Incentives

We’ve seen great improvement in on-time attendance with our On Time Turkeys and Tree-Mendous Attendance initiatives. Thank you for your continued support!

Now, we’re excited to kick off Snow Excuses! The grade level with the highest percentage of students arriving on time every day will earn a Free Seat Friday in the cafeteria.

Research shows that students who consistently arrive on time are more likely to succeed academically and develop habits that support future college and career readiness. Let’s keep the momentum going and start every day on time!

New Year Reminders for Car Rider Safety

The safety of our students is our highest priority. Recently, we’ve noticed some unsafe driving behaviors during arrival and dismissal, including cars going around other vehicles in the car rider line. This creates a dangerous situation, as students and staff are moving between cars.

For everyone’s safety, please follow these important guidelines:
  • Stay in the car rider line — do not drive around other vehicles.
  • Drive slowly and be prepared to stop at any time.
  • Follow staff directions and watch for students crossing.
  • Be patient — a few extra minutes helps keep every child safe.
We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to making our car line safe for all students!
